Gum disease & tooth loss

Gum disease affects a large part of the population – about one in ten people will experience it in their lifetime. If you have loose teeth as an adult, we'll help with the right treatment. The Tandkliniken Hammar team works with high competence and long experience.

If your gums bleed when brushing or flossing, that can be a sign of gingivitis. Healthy gums are firm around the tooth and pale pink. Red, swollen gums often indicate inflammation caused by bacterial plaque.

If gingivitis continues over a long time, it can lead to periodontitis (gum disease with tooth loss). This happens when bacteria establish themselves in the gum pocket and damage the periodontal ligament and jawbone.

To assess the extent, the gum pockets are measured with a probe and the jawbone checked on X-rays. The required mechanical cleaning is then carried out, removing tartar and bacteria.
